The Christmas Songs Book Tag 2023

I love a good Christmas Book Tag. Today I’m completing the Christmas Songs Book Tag 2023. For book and Christmas fans alike this is perfect. Give it a go!

The Christmas Songs Book Tag 2023

1. “All I Want for Christmas Is You”: Favorite bookish couple.

My mind immediately goes to Emma and Mr Knightley in Emma by Jane Austen. Emma is so sparky and determined, whilst Mr Knightley is steadfast and earnest. They match each other, and I love that their relationship begins as a fully formed friendship long before it turns into anything romantic.

2. “I’ll Be Home for Christmas”: Name a book where a character is away from home (school, vacation, etc.).

Days at the Morisaki Bookshop by Satoshi Yagisawa. One of the many books I worked on this year in my role as Head of Fiction Marketing. The main character leaves Tokyo to stay with her uncle in a tiny bookish village in Japan after her boyfriend unceremoniously dumps her. And in a tiny bookshop in the village, she rediscovers a love of reading. So sweet!

3. “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”: Name your favorite “little” book (children’s book, short story, novella, etc.).

Ooh I have so many! I think my favourite – and my favourite Christmas – novella is A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. I try to read it every year and I still find a lot of joy in it each time.

4. “Santa Claus is Coming to Town“: What book(s) do you hope Santa brings you this year?

Hmm… a few! I’ve got an eye on the MinaLima editions of Harry Potter but I’m grateful and happy with any books my friends and family want to gift me. Sometimes the best book present is a friend’s or family’s favourite book that they recommend.

5. “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer”: Which book turned your nose red (made you cry)?

Ha, like most people it was A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara. But it wasn’t the novel – strangely I didn’t cry when reading that tome! It was actually the adapted script for the play that I saw before re-reading. The production was harrowing, to say the least, and the script was very moving when I read it afterwards.

6. “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year”: Your favorite book/kind of book to read during the holidays.

I love Christmas classics, from The Nutcracker to A Christmas Carol, but also children’s books. I tend to read little and often over Christmas as I’m so busy.

7. “We Three Kings”: Your favorite trilogy.

I don’t read many series anymore, but I suppose my favourite trilogy of all time is The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.

8. “Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow”: A character you would love to be snowed in with.

Hmm… someone who can hold a conversation and keep me entertained. So probably Benedict Bridgerton from An Offer from a Gentleman.

9. “Last Christmas”: A book that seriously let you down.

I don’t tend to finish the books that let me down, but one I did read recently was The Clocks by Agatha Christie. For some reason, Poirot was barely in it and the story felt repetitive and a little dull. I usually love Agatha Christie but that one was a disappointment.

10. “White Christmas”: An upcoming release you’re dreaming about.

And finally, an upcoming release. Probably Hearstopper Vol. 5 by Alice Oseman – out today! I’ve pre-ordered my copy so I hope it arrives ASAP!
