Most Anticipated Books of 2023

With 2023 just around the corner, today I thought I would share the list of my most anticipated books of 2023.

Most Anticipated Books of 2023

The Making of another Major Movie Masterpiece by Tom Hanks – 9th May 2023

First up, is a book that has created a lot of excitement in the publishing world. I’ve not actually read Tom Hanks’ previously published collection of short stories Uncommon Stories but his first novel intrigues me. The title – not the best in my opinion – alone is intriguing. From someone within the movie industry, it feels niche yet exciting to see that he’s writing a novel set in his world.

The Three of Us by Ore Agbaje-Williams – 18th May 2023

I used to work with Ore at HarperCollins and I remember the excitement when her debut was first announced. The story follows a young couple and the wife’s best friend, who has never got on with the husband of her best friend. Told over the course of the day and from all three perspectives it’s been compared to I May Destroy You and Such a Fun Age by Kiley Reid.

Atalanta by Jennifer Saint – 13th April 2023

Jennifer Saint is returning to shelves with her third Greek Myth retelling, this time focusing on Atalanta the only female argonaut. I’ve previously read a retelling of Atalanta’s experiences from Emily Hauser, so I look forward to seeing what Jennifer Saint does with her story.

House of Odysseus by Claire North – 24th August 2023

Another Greek Myth retelling incoming is House of Odysseus by Claire North. Claire recently published Ithaca which I’ve got but yet to read. Her second novel in the Penelope Trilogy focuses more on Penelope, the wife of Odysseus, and Orestes the son of Agamemnon. Orestes has been sent to Ithaca by his sister Elektra after the murder of his mother, which he is mad with guilt about.

Psyche and Eros by Luna McNamara – 25th May 2023

Yet another Greek Myth retelling, this time from a new voice. This story focuses on the female warrior Psyche and the Greek God Eros, who accidentally falls in love with her. It’s a doomed love story from the start, but one not often told.

Clytemnestra by Costanza Casati- 30th March 2023

And finally, for the Greek Myths anyway, we have Clytemnestra by Constanza Casati. Clytemnestra’s story has become more popular of late – featuring in Elektra by Jennifer Saint and soon House of Odysseus. She was the wife of Agamemnon who she murdered upon his return from Troy, in revenge for his murder of their daughter.

No Life for a Lady by Hannah Dolby – 2nd March 2023

A Victorian-set story about a 28-year-old who doesn’t want to marry. Violet Hamilton is determined to rebuff her father’s attempts to marry her off as much as possible, but she’s also determined to hunt down her mother who disappeared off Hastings Pier 10 years prior.

Really Good Actually by Monica Heisey – 19th January 2023

Really Good Actually is the debut novel of the writer behind the popular TV show Schitt’s Creek, following a young divorcee whose life is falling apart, in a hilarious and timely story about coming of age again.

Romantic Comedy by Curtis Sittenfeld – 13th April 2023

From the author of Rodham, this novel looks at the realities of romantic comedies against real life. From the perspective of a successful screenwriter, the main character wonders if average-looking women really can pull extremely handsome men as so many mediocre men can in real-life and on-screen. An inflammatory novel by a fiery literary novelist.

Friendaholic by Elizabeth Day – 13th April 2023

A new non-fiction book from Elizabeth Day, the creator of the How to Fail podcast. This non-fiction discusses the topic of friendship, from the number of friends we’re actually capable of having, to the frienemies and effect of social media on friendships.

You Do You by Charlotte Greedy – 12th January 2023

One book that has sat at the top of the pre-order charts for months is You Do You by social media influencer Charlotte Greedy. This book is supposed to be an inspirational and motivational guide to getting the life you want.

The Things We Do To Our Friends by Heather Darwent – 12th January 2023

A feminist revenge thriller set at the University of Edinburgh. It sounds an awful lot like Clique, the BBC drama which is one of my all-time favourites. This book has been compared to The Secret History meets A Promising Young Women, all comparisons I enjoy.

Now She is a Witch by Kirsty Logan – 12th January 2023

And finally, a new novel from Kirsty Logan the author of The Gracekeepers. This is a witch story which I’m sure will set the new trend of Witcherature ablaze.

Those are my most anticipated books of 2023. What are yours? Let me know in the comments below.
