How to Decorate a Rental for Christmas

Just because you live in a rental doesn’t mean that you can’t decorate for Christmas. I’ve lived in rentals where my and flatmate have had a real tree – don’t recommend it as it sheds like crazy! But I’ve also lived in rentals where I didn’t decorate at all.

However, here are some top tips on how to decorate a rental for Christmas on any budget.

Christmas Duvet Set

2020 has been a great year for Christmas bedding. I know because I’ve been searching for the bedding I want to use, as I don’t have any festive theme bedding. If you’re not into patterned bedding though, you can always go with fleece bedding as a nice Christmassy alternative.

Christmas Wreath

Whether you’ve got your own front door, a flat door or a door to your bathroom you can put a wreath up for Christmas. Wreaths are pretty inexpensive, and you can even make them yourself if you’re looking for something natural or crafty.

Candles are great for Christmas, not only because of Christmas-scented candles but because of the cosy, hygge vibes they can bring to a rental.

Christmas Trees

Christmas Trees are entirely optional and can be any size. You can go full-on seven-foot real-time, or a simple 20cm tree to sit on your desk. My preference is smaller, artificial trees, mostly because I never had a real tree growing up due to family allergies. Also, they’re a lot easier to put up and put down each year.

Advent Calendars

Advent Calendars aren’t just the chocolate, TV-themed boxes we used to get in B&S anymore. They can be purely decorative in the shapes of trains and Christmas trees, to being advent with beauty products and skincare inside them. They add a Christmas vibe to a rental as you wake every morning to a treat. And they’re usually pretty cute.

Fairy Lights

Who doesn’t love fairy lights? You can string these above your bed, behind a sofa, on windows… wherever you want. And you can keep them up all year round. But there’s something lovely about sitting in your rental with just fairy lights on.
