Favourite TV Shows of 2022

It’s that time of year when I get the chance to share my favourites. These are my Favourite TV Shows of 2022.

Favourite TV Shows of 2022

Peaky Blinders – Season 1-6 – BBC

In early 2022 I finally got into Peaky Blinders. My mum got a little – actually very! – obsessed with Peaky Blinders in late 2021 and after I caught a few episodes with her, I decided to go back to the beginning and watch it all in one go. Thankfully just before the last season aired. It was brilliant and atmospheric, very dark yet still funny in places. I was very invested in the characters and storylines by the end.

Vikings: Valhalla – Season 1 – Netflix

I never got into Vikings on the History channel but the sequel, which aired on Netflix, caught my attention and I ended up really enjoying it. I’m looking forward to Season 2 launching soon. It’s dark by still a lot of fun.

The Marvellous Mrs. Maisel – Season 4 – Amazon Prime

I’ve been a massive fan of Mrs Maisel since the first Amazon pilot way back when. The fourth series had a long delay due to COVID, and whilst it was probably my least favourite season of the whole series, I still really enjoyed it. I can’t wait for the final series to air in 2023.

The Last Kingdom – Season 5 – Netflix

Speaking of the last series, this year The Last Kingdom finished. And the last series was the best of the bunch. I had watched the first two series quite closely but dropped off on series 3 and 4, but decided to watch the last and I’m glad I did. It was excellent. The storylines were fantastic, and the acting and the tying up of all the storylines were brilliant.

Bridgerton – Season 2 – Netflix

I wouldn’t be myself if I didn’t include Bridgerton in this round-up. I’m slightly addicted to this series, and I loved going to Secret Cinema: Bridgerton this year. This season we followed the slow-burn romance between Viscount Bridgerton and Kate Sharma. Addictive!

The Resident – Season 5 – Netflix

A medical drama I really enjoy, though it’s quite harrowing. The Resident follows characters who are aware of the difficulties and stupidities within the American Medical system. This series was sad as one of the main characters was killed off, but the storylines were just as thrilling, raw and addictive.

9-1-1 – Season 1-6 – Disney+

Another discovery of 2022 was 9-1-1 with Angela Bassett and Peter Krause. I really enjoyed binge-watching the first four series and then catching up with season 5 and now 6. It’s adrenaline-inducing and very entertaining, if sometimes scary and sad.

Outlander – Season 6 – Starz

Droughtlander was over for a short period of time and we got season 6 of Outlander. Ending on a massive cliffhanger, I’m looking forward to finding out what happened to Jamie and Claire in Season 7 out in early 2023.

Interior Design Masters – Season 3 – BBC

I’m strangely addicted to Interior Design Masters on Season 3. I love watching the designs come together, the dramas that ensue when carpets and curtains don’t arrive on time, and the bitchiness between the designers. Very entertaining and sometimes inspiring.

Life after Life – BBC

This limited mini-series was beautifully adapted from Kate Atkinson’s book. Every episode had me gripped and I was an emotional wreck by the end. The acting is exquisite and the storyline so easy to understand, even if impossible to explain.

Obi-Wan Kenobi – Season 1 -Disney+

What a childhood flashback this series was. Ewan McGregor returning as Obi-Wan, not to mention Hayden Christensen returning as Anakin/Darth Vader. I was convinced it was going to be nothing more than a flashback but it was a great series! The little girl who played Leia stole the show, but the writing was decent and the acting better than expected. Not to mention the bromance that has been reignited between Hayden and Ewan, giving them a chance to address the bad acting of the prequels. I look forward to seeing more of this series.

Stranger Things – Season 1-4 – Netflix

I can’t believe that I am now a Stranger Things fans? If you would have told me at the beginning of the year that I would lie in bed with COVID and watch Strangers Things Season 1 to 4 and then re-watch them again straight after, I would have thought you were crazy. But nope. I’ve even been to see Strangers Sings the musical parody and adored it! Only 1-2 years to wait until the last season.

House of the Dragon – Season 1 – NowTV

I was bound to love this series since I was a massive Game of Thrones fan. I was worried it might have the writing of GoT Season 8, but thankfully, the writing of this series is impeccable and the acting more so. Emma D’Arcy and Matt Smith were the stand-out performers for me. I’m very much looking forward to seeing Season 2 in 2023.

Lord of the Rings: Power of the Ring – Season 1 – Amazon

I still think the showrunners who decided to launch the Lord of the Rings prequel at the same time as the Game of Thrones prequel was an idiot. But I still managed to watch both shows. The cinematography of this series is excellent but the writing and storylines are weak in comparison to House of the Dragon. I still enjoyed it and will watch the next season, but I won’t be taking any time off to watch it.

Heartstopper – Season 1 – Netflix

And finally, the gorgeous and heartwarming Heartstopper series on Netflix. It’s just so sweet! The epitome of a show that makes you go ‘aww’. Adapted from Alice Oseman’s graphic novels perfectly, I loved it.
