Christmas Films to Watch in 2023

Who doesn’t love a Christmas film? From the cheesy to the classic, the romantic to the explosive. Here are my recommendations for Christmas Films to watch in 2023.

Christmas Films to Watch in 2023

The Holiday – Netflix

Starting to strong with this 2006 must-watch. Kate Winslet and Jack Black are the perfect pairing, who knew? This romantic comedy stands the test of time and seems to get better. From the cosy cottagecore vibes to the sweetness of the intergenerational friendship in LA. It’s funny, romantic and perfectly Christmassy.

The Grinch Who Stole Christmas – Amazon Prime

Jim Carrey is fabulous as the Grinch. For me this is his ultimate role – sacrilege, I know! – I just him in this silly Adult/Children’s film. Every year I notice another double entendre or an ‘adult’ inclusion, from the Swingers party to Cindy Lou Who’s mum stealing a traffic light.

Holidate – Netflix

A Netflix Original from about three years ago. This funny, cutesy and romantic comedy is not just for Christmas as it features most of the holidays all year round. So if you’re looking for something light and not overtly Christmas then go for this romcom.

It’s a Wonderful Life – Amazon Prime

Until last year I had never seen It’s a Wonderful Life and yet now I know I’ll watch it every year. For the second year in a row, I teared up at the ending, seeing the love that Bedford Falls has for George Bailey. It’s adorable and the script is great! For 1946 this movie holds up as the ultimate Christmas classic.

The Muppets Christmas Carol – Disney+

And finally, a musical must-watch. The best family Christmas film. I started my 2023 Christmas by watching The Muppets Christmas Carol, and I’m proud to say I still know all the words by heart.
