It’s been a while since my last ‘Best Books Beginning With’ post, but today I’m sharing a list of the best books beginning with I that I’ve read.

Best Books Beginning With I

I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou

I read I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings a while back, by listening to the audiobook narrated by Maya Angelou. Maya was an incredible woman and such an inspiration. Her writing is intelligent and exceptionally moving. It should be compulsory reading, especially her first memoir. She wrote seven, but this book shares her experience as a young child in Stamps, Alabama. Experiencing sexual assault, racism from the KKK as well as mutism. It’s very raw and honest, but also beautifully written.

In At The Deep End by Kate Davies

One of my favourite reads ever. This brilliant piece of Queer literature is hilarious and important. Following a woman who decides to explore her feelings for another woman, when she never considered herself gay, she enters into an obsessive and toxic love affair. It’s graphic and hilarious but also covers some very dark topics. No one has written anything like this before and I’m desperate to read Kate’s next adult novel.

In Paris With You by Clementine Beauvais

A young adult novel set in the heart of France. This teen romance takes us from one summer to years later when the teenagers reconnect as adults. As adults, they discuss their teenage fling and why it went wrong, and how it could have worked out for them. It’s a lovely story of young love, set in the city of lights.

Invisible Women by Caroline Criado Perez

A hard-hitting non-fiction book that will leave you fuming when you read it, especially if you’re a woman. Who knew that things like seatbelts and medication were wholly tailored to men, without any regard for women? It’s an infuriating yet extremely important read.

The Immortalists by Chloe Benjamin

And finally, a literary novel with a magical twist. Four siblings visit a psychic and find out the dates of their death, from there on in it is chaos. The novel makes you question what you would do with your life if you knew the date of your death.
