12 Days of Christmas Book Tag 2022

It wouldn’t be Blogmas without a Christmas Book Tag. This is the 12 Days of Christmas Book Tag 2022. I’m not sure who created this tag but I see it done every year and did it last year, so thought I would refresh my answers.

On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me: A Patridge in a Pear Tree

The partridge stood alone in the pear tee. What is your favourite standalone?

My go-to favourite standalone is The Reader by Bernhard Schlink. It’s such a clever and hard-hitting novel with such an interesting message. Well worth a read if you haven’t read it yet.

On the Second Day of Christmas, my true love gave to me: Two Turtle Doves

Love is in the air! Who is your one true pairing?

I have adored reading Heartstopper and seeing Nick and Charlie’s relationship development in such a cute, warm and realistic way.

On the Third Day of Christmas, my true love gave to me: Three French Hens

In the spirit of threes, what is the best trilogy you have read?

My favourite trilogy of all time is The Hunger Games series. I’ve yet to read another and enjoy it as much as I did that trilogy when it came out. I read all three books in two days after school.

On the Fourth Day of Christmas, my true love gave to me: Four Calling Birds

Since series usually consist of four or more books, what is your favourite series?

My favourite series of all time, of course, is Harry Potter. I may not like the author anymore, but I loved that series and it encapsulates my childhood entirely.

On the Fifth Day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: Five Golden Rings

One ring to rule them all! Who is your favourite villain/antagonist?

There are so many great villains in fiction, but all for different reasons and it’s not always clear-cut. Mr Wickham is a great villain in Pride and Prejudice because he’s so charming, but a pure lothario.

On the Sixth Day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: Six Geese A Laying

Creation is a beautiful thing. What is your favourite world/world-building?

I love the world of Narnia by C.S. Lewis. There is, of course, the religious rhetoric that I choose to ignore, but the world is luscious and warm. Even with all the peril.

On the Seventh Day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: Seven Swans a Swimming

Who needs seven swans when all it takes is one good animal sidekick? Who’s your favourite animal sidekick?

The daemons in the His Dark Materials series are iconic. Pantalaimon, Lyra’s daemon, is her guiding voice and the truest part of herself.

On the Eighth Day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: Eight Maids a Milking

Milk is so 18th Century. Which book or series takes beverages/food to a whole new level?

Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain is a definitive classic in the book world, but also fictional novels like The Hundred-Foot Journey by Richard C. Morais and recent releases like Taste by Stanley Tucci.

On the Ninth Day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: Nine Ladies Dancing

Dancing is just one skill of a lady! Who is your favourite kickass female lead?

I really like Marianne from Normal People. She’s flawed and sometimes frustrating, but I love the character. From her intelligence to her desires and acting upon them. She’s incredibly human and to me that is kickass.

On the Tenth Day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: Ten Lords a Leaping

How about your favourite leading lad?

For me, I always go back to Peeta Mellark in The Hunger Games. He was supportive of Katniss from the get-go and does anything to protect her, even sacrificing himself. Though Katniss is very much the lead, he’s the leading lad in The Hunger Games to me. Gale, who?

On the Eleventh Day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: Eleven Pipes Piping

What is your favourite book or bookish thing, with musical influencers? (It can be about music, reference music a lot etc)

I love a good memoir about musicians, my favourite is Me by Elton John. I listened to the audiobook which was narrated by Taron Egerton, who played Elton the biopic Rocketman. Elton shared everything, warts and all, and Taron’s narration added to my enjoyment as he sings, performs and acts like Elton throughout.

On the Twelfth Day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: Twelve Drummers Drumming

Drum roll please… What is your favourite read of the year?

And finally, my favourite read of this year. This year it has to be Madly, Deeply: The Alan Rickman Diaries. I’ve been waiting since the announcement that this book was coming to read it, and I devoured it within a week. It was so lovely to see the world of Alan Rickman. Most of us never met him, but he’s always been in our lives from Die Hard to Harry Potter and Robin Hood: Prince of Theives.
